Scaling is the precipitation of dense, adherent materials on metal surfaces. This is particularly evident in high, heat transfer areas such as water heaters. Blended polyphosphates inhibit the crystallization of calcium carbonate from saturated solutions. Small amounts of polyphosphates can minimize much larger quantities of calcium carbonate from forming.
